| In the Nocturne for violin and piano Cage tries to dissolve the difference in sound of the two instruments.
The piece has an atmospheric character, like most compositions from this period. The work should be played with
sustained resonances, and with a tempo mark 'sempre rubato'. The piano plays chordal arpeggios and clusters, the
violin mostly sustained tones. |
